jessica Care moore is a renowned poet, recording artist, author, activist, and cultural curator. One of the leading voices of her generation, Moore has collaborated with hip-hop legends like Common, Nas, Talib Kweli, and Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills, among others. She is the author of several books, including The Words Don’t Fit in My Mouth, The Alphabet Verses the Ghetto, and We Want Our Bodies Back, which won the American Library Association Black Caucus Poetry Honor in 2020. Her upcoming children's book, Her Crown Shines, will be published by HarperCollins in 2025. moore’s poetry has garnered widespread recognition, including attention from Oprah Winfrey. As Detroit’s Poet Laureate, moore is committed to uplifting poetry in the community, composing poems for special events, and leading poetry-centered initiatives across the city.
